The “Billion Tree Tsunami project” increases forest cover in KPK by 4 percent says the Prime Minister Imran Khan. The total cost of the budget includes $169 million.
The project was launched in 2014 by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government as a result of the challenge to the Global Warming. It has successfully restored 350, 000 hectares of forests and degraded land.
It aims to restore 150 million of land by 2020 and 350 hectares of land by 2030
The vision is tied to the green growth of sustainable development to restore lands and improve ecosystems worldwide. The project has grown new plant saplings along the northern side of Pakistan.
Following this a 10 billion tree plantation drive was initiated on September 3, 2018 to cover whole Pakistan for the next five years. Trees and green plants serve as a regulator and are Eco-friendly maintaining a good friendly atmosphere.
Pakistan has a total of 2 to 4 percent of forest land area which is very low. The UN recommended percent is 12. Pakistan has a healthy participation in growing artificial forests and play role in clean and green country.
